Banks and credit unions

Somebody looking for a cash machine is not looking for a branch.

A branch, a cash machine and an advisor seen by appointment are three different visits. Let people pick the one they came for.

Bring your location data

CSV import, Google Sheets sync or dashboard edits.

Shape the visitor journey

Search, filters, hours, directions and custom actions.

Match your site

85+ available settings, markers and provider map styles.

What your network looks like

Full branches, cash machines standing alone in lobbies and shops, and part-time sites where an advisor attends on set days, all carrying one brand and all flattened onto one map by most locators.

Why a generic map falls short

One map with one kind of pin makes every location look like a branch. The customer who drove across town to what turned out to be an unattended machine remembers it, and the complaint lands on the branch network rather than on the website that sent them.

What visitors need to do

  • Split the map by what a site is: branch, cash machine, appointment only
  • Keep lobby and machine access hours separate from counter hours
  • Filter by service: mortgage advice, business banking, foreign currency, safe deposit, notary, drive-through
  • Say whether a machine takes deposits or only dispenses, which is the second question every time

How Handled covers it

  • Filterable tags splitting branches, cash machines and appointment-only sites, with a count beside each option
  • Custom fields for counter hours, lobby access, deposit-taking machines and the days an advisor attends
  • Featured ordering so a full-service branch sits above the machines around it, up to a radius you set
  • REST and Query APIs on Pro and Business, so a nightly job from your own systems can keep branch and machine status current

Not every banks and credit unions business is the same

Full-service branches

Counters, advisors, currency, safe deposit. These are the sites a customer means when they search for a branch, and they should sit above the machines around them. Featured ordering with a radius does that locally, then stops, so a branch in the city centre never pushes past the one the customer can walk to.

Standalone cash machines

They outnumber branches many times over and answer a different question: is it free, does it take deposits, and can I reach it at midnight. Lobby access hours are not counter hours, and deposit-taking is the second thing every customer asks. Both belong in fields on the machine rather than in the branch record nearby.

Part-time and community sites

An advisor at a library on Tuesdays, a banking hub shared with other institutions, a mobile branch that parks in a village on alternate Fridays. The day matters more than the address. Hold the attendance days in a field and tag the site as appointment only, so nobody drives out on a Wednesday.

Business and mortgage centres

Appointment-only sites with no public counter, serving a customer who searched for commercial banking rather than for a branch. They should be findable by service and invisible to someone looking to pay in a cheque. That is a filter and a tag, not a note halfway down a description nobody reads.

Setting it up

  1. 1. Decide first whether machines belong in the same locator

A network with hundreds of machines and dozens of branches will drown the branch results unless the site type is the first filter on the page. Handled runs one locator per account, so if machines and branches must be separated entirely rather than filtered apart, settle that before you load the data.

  2. 2. Classify every site before importing

Branch, cash machine, appointment only, community session. Type is the tag everything else hangs off: what shows by default, what featured ordering lifts, and what a customer can rule out in one tap.

  3. 3. Record three sets of hours, not one

Counter hours, lobby or machine access hours, and the days an advisor attends. Counter hours drive the open-now filter; the other two sit in custom fields. Most complaints in this trade come from a site that was technically open and unable to do the thing the customer came for.

  4. 4. Put accessibility and machine capability in fields

Step-free access, audio guidance, drive-through, deposit-taking, currency stocked. These are the details that decide whether a journey is worth making, and they are the first thing an accessibility complaint will ask whether you published.

  5. 5. Keep it current from your own systems

The REST and Query APIs on Pro and Business let a nightly job push hours and machine status from the source of truth you already maintain. A branch network that depends on someone editing a page by hand goes stale in the exact week a branch closes.

What to prepare before you publish

You do not need a perfect data system to start. A clean first list is enough to test the visitor journey, then you can keep it current from the workflow that suits your team.

  • Location name and address
  • Phone, website or booking link
  • Categories, products or services
  • Opening hours and special hours
  • A map provider key
  • The page where the locator will be embedded

Questions we get asked

Should ATMs sit on the same map as branches, or somewhere separate?

The same map, split by a site type filter as the first control on the page. Machines outnumber branches many times over and will drown the branch results otherwise. Handled runs one locator per account, so a full separation needs a second account, and that is worth settling before you load the data.

Can customers see whether a cash machine takes deposits or only dispenses?

Yes, as a custom field on the machine record rather than on the branch nearby. It is the second question every customer asks, and it belongs beside lobby access hours and whether the machine charges to use.

How do we list a site where an advisor only attends on set days?

Tag it as appointment only and hold the attendance days in a custom field, so an advisor at a library on Tuesdays reads as a Tuesday service. The day matters more than the address, and nobody should drive out on a Wednesday.

Can lobby access hours be shown separately from branch counter hours?

Yes. Counter hours go into opening hours and drive the open-now filter, while lobby or machine access hours sit in a custom field beside them. Most complaints here come from a site that was open and could not do the thing asked of it.

Can our own systems push branch and machine updates into the locator overnight?

Yes, on Pro and Business. The REST and Query APIs let a nightly job send hours, machine status and closures from the system you already treat as the source of truth, instead of someone editing a page by hand in the week a branch closes.

What does a branch and ATM locator cost for a credit union?

Plans begin at $19 per month with a 7-day free trial and no card at signup, and there is no free plan afterwards. API access sits on Pro and Business. The map key is yours, so Mapbox or Google bills you for usage directly.

If you need something that is not here

Handled is small enough to build to order. If your trade needs a field, a filter or a behaviour the locator does not have yet, say so and we will tell you honestly whether it is a week away or not something we will do.
