Squarespace store locator

A Squarespace store locator that fits your template.

Squarespace's own map block is built around a single pinned address. Once you have more locations than a visitor will read down a page, a Code Block gives them search, filters, opening hours and directions instead.

A real locator capture. This version is designed for a retail brand whose site is already carefully art-directed and where the locator has to hold that standard. Open the full-size example to search it. Lumen Optical is an invented concept brand using sample data.

Squarespace details

Replace a single pin with a useful location experience.

A Squarespace map block is useful for one address. A Handled Code Block can give visitors search, filters, opening hours and directions while matching the surrounding template.

  • Add the locator with a Code Block on any page.
  • Preview the page after publishing the block.
  • Keep template styling and locator data separate.

Built around the search

Why a Squarespace store locator beats a list of addresses.

A stacked list of addresses works up to about four. After that the visitor is doing the search themselves, in their head, against a page that cannot help them.

  1. 01

One search box instead of a scroll.

Visitors type a town or postcode and get the nearest locations ranked, with distance, opening hours and directions attached to each result.

  2. 02

Styled to the template, not fighting it.

Set colours, typography, corner radius, spacing and marker treatment to match what Squarespace is already rendering around it. The widget runs in a shadow root, so neither stylesheet can interfere with the other.

  3. 03

The Code Block is a one-time job.

Add it once and leave it. New locations, changed hours, different filters and design edits all happen in Handled and appear on the published page without reopening the editor.

Search and discovery

A visitor finds the nearest useful location without scanning the whole list.

The locator opens, the visitor types a town or postcode, and results reorder by distance. Search, filters, labels and layout are settings you control, not fixed behaviour.

Start with the spreadsheet you already maintain. Import a CSV, review the locations, then keep the same embed as the list changes.

Install on Squarespace

Add the Squarespace store locator with a Code Block.

Add a Code Block where the locator belongs and paste the embed. Worth knowing before it worries you: Squarespace does not run embedded scripts while you are editing, so the block can look empty in the editor and be perfectly correct. Save, then open the published page.

<div id="biz-locator-root"></div>
<script src="https://cdn.handledlocal.com/widget.js"
  data-site-id="your-site-id" async></script>

Three steps to publish

  1. 1Edit the page and add a Code Block where the locator should appear.
  2. 2Paste the embed code into the Code Block.
  3. 3Save and open the public page. Scripts may not run while you are editing.

Before you choose

Questions buyers ask about this setup.

Why is the Code Block empty while I am editing?
Squarespace does not execute embedded scripts inside the editor, so an empty-looking block there says nothing about whether the install worked. Save the page and open its public URL, which is the only view that runs the locator.
Do I need a particular Squarespace plan?
You need a plan that offers the Code Block, which is how any third-party embed gets onto a Squarespace page. If your editor does not offer a Code Block, that is a Squarespace plan question rather than a Handled one.
Will it look like a widget bolted onto my template?
Only if you leave it looking that way. Colours, fonts, type scale, spacing, corner radius, button weight and marker style are all yours to set, and the six live examples exist to show how far apart two locators built on the same product can look.
Can I put it on more than one page?
Yes. Paste the same embed into a Code Block on each page where the locator should appear. Locations and styling stay managed in one Handled account.
Who pays for the map traffic?
You connect your own Mapbox or Google Maps key. That provider bills map usage directly; the Handled subscription covers the locator product, location capacity and team seats.
