What your network looks like

Independent boutiques, concessions and shop-in-shops inside department stores, a small number of your own doors, and outlets clearing past seasons under the same brand name.

Why a generic map falls short

Wholesale fashion turns over every season and a lot of it lives inside somebody else's building. A locator that shows only a street address and never says which floor, which department or which season is stocked leaves the last fifty metres of the journey unanswered.

What visitors need to do

  • Say where inside a building a concession sits, because a department store address drops the shopper at a street door with five floors above it
  • Separate full-price stockists from outlets, since a shopper hunting last season and a shopper wanting the new drop must not be sent to the same place
  • Show which category a boutique buys: outerwear only, footwear only, the full collection
  • Retire a stockist quickly when a season's wholesale account is not renewed

How Handled covers it

  • Custom fields per location for floor, department and concession name
  • Filterable tags for full price, outlet, and the categories a stockist buys
  • Google Sheets sync with change review, so a season's account changes are checked before they go live
  • Featured ordering to keep your own doors and flagship boutiques at the top

Not every fashion brands business is the same

Independent boutiques

Bought by an owner with a point of view, three months ahead, in categories rather than whole collections: outerwear from you, knitwear from somebody else. Accounts renew or quietly do not, so a slice of this list is wrong by the time the new drop lands, and the filter that helps a shopper is which part of the range that boutique actually bought.

Concessions and shop-in-shops

The address is a department store and the customer is already standing in it, one floor away, unable to find you. Floor, hall and the name over the space are the difference between a sale and a walk-out. Hours belong to the host store, and the concession can move to another floor without the postcode changing at all.

Outlets and past season

Same brand, different shopper, and mixing the two lists costs you both of them. Somebody hunting last season's price wants a route to the outlet village, and somebody after the new collection must never be sent there. Outlets are destinations people drive to deliberately, so saying what is there matters more than being nearest.

Overseas distributors and agents

In markets run by an agent you do not hold the door list, you receive it twice a year in a format they chose. Names arrive transliterated, addresses arrive half finished, and there is a lag between an account closing and anyone telling you. This is the part of the map to review before it publishes rather than trust on arrival.

Setting it up

  1. 1. Pull the current season's accounts

Start from the sales ledger rather than last year's locator: who bought this season, in which categories, and who was not renewed. In wholesale fashion the audit is the work and the import is the quick part.

  2. 2. Import through a sheet you keep updating

Connect Google Sheets so each season's changes flow through with a review step before they go live. Wholesale lists move in batches, and reviewing the batch is how a dropped account fails to linger on your map until a customer finds it.

  3. 3. Record the inside address

Add custom fields for floor, department and concession name, and fill them for every location that sits inside another building. It is the detail nobody else on the map publishes and the one that gets a shopper to the rail.

  4. 4. Separate full price from outlet, then publish

Tag each door as full price, outlet or your own, put your own doors in featured order, and embed the locator on the stockists page. Check it on a phone, because that is the device somebody standing in a department store will open it on.

What to prepare before you publish

You do not need a perfect data system to start. A clean first list is enough to test the visitor journey, then you can keep it current from the workflow that suits your team.

  • Location name and address
  • Phone, website or booking link
  • Categories, products or services
  • Opening hours and special hours
  • A map provider key
  • The page where the locator will be embedded

Questions we get asked

What does a stockist locator cost for a fashion brand?

It is $19 a month at the entry plan, preceded by a 7 day free trial that takes no card details. Nothing drops to a free tier afterwards. Maps run on your own Mapbox or Google Maps key, billed to you by that provider rather than marked up here.

How do I stop shoppers looking for the new collection being sent to an outlet?

Tag every door as full price, outlet or your own store, and the visitor filters on it. Someone hunting last season gets a route to the outlet village and someone after the current drop never sees it.

Can I publish the floor and department a concession sits in?

Yes, through custom fields for floor, hall and the name over the space. It is the detail almost no fashion locator publishes and it is what closes the last fifty metres for a shopper already inside the building.

How do I remove wholesale accounts that did not reorder this season?

Work from the sales ledger, update the sheet and let Google Sheets sync bring the batch through. Changes are shown for review before they publish, which is what stops a dropped boutique lingering on the map until a customer finds it.

Can I show which categories a boutique bought, such as outerwear only?

Yes. Category tags are filterable by the visitor, so a boutique that took knitwear and nothing else appears for knitwear searches and not for the rest of the collection.

How do overseas agents and distributors get their door list onto my locator?

Most send a sheet, which you paste into the synced spreadsheet and review before it goes live. On Pro and Business there are REST and Query APIs, so an agent with a system of their own can push updates instead of emailing a file.

If you need something that is not here

Handled is small enough to build to order. If your trade needs a field, a filter or a behaviour the locator does not have yet, say so and we will tell you honestly whether it is a week away or not something we will do.
