Gyms and fitness clubs

People join the club that has the thing they came for.

Let someone find the club with the pool, the reformer studio or the twenty-four hour access, rather than the one closest to a postcode.

Bring your location data

CSV import, Google Sheets sync or dashboard edits.

Shape the visitor journey

Search, filters, hours, directions and custom actions.

Match your site

85+ available settings, markers and provider map styles.

What your network looks like

Clubs you own or franchise, no two fitted out the same: some with a pool and a sauna, some studio only, some with round-the-clock access and a reception that is staffed for half of it.

Why a generic map falls short

Nobody joins a gym because it is 0.4 miles away. They join the one with the squat racks free at six, or the reformer class on a Tuesday, and a finder that only sorts by distance hands a prospect the club that will disappoint them in week two.

What visitors need to do

  • Filter by facility: pool, sauna, lifting platforms, studio, creche, women's only area
  • Keep access hours and staffed hours apart, because they are two different answers to open now
  • Point at the timetable and the joining page belonging to that club
  • Show which clubs a membership tier actually covers, since multi-site access is usually the upsell

How Handled covers it

  • Filterable tags per club for facilities, class types and membership tier
  • Opening hours with an open-now filter for staffed reception hours, and a custom field for access hours so a twenty-four hour club is never mistaken for a closed one
  • A per-club action button pointing at that site's timetable or joining flow
  • 85+ widget settings, so the finder reads as one step in the membership journey instead of a map bolted onto it

Not every gyms and fitness clubs business is the same

Full-facility clubs

Pool, sauna, sports hall, creche: the clubs where the fit-out is the reason someone joins and pays more. The facility list is the filter that matters, and it has to be honest. A pool listed at a club where the pool has been shut for refurbishment since March is the fastest way to lose a joiner at the door.

Round-the-clock access sites

These have two sets of hours and only one of them is opening hours. Members get in at four in the morning with a fob, but reception is staffed from seven until eight, and the tour a prospect wants only happens while it is. Staffed hours drive the open-now filter, access hours sit in a custom field beside it.

Boutique and single-discipline studios

Reformer, cycle, boxing, hot yoga. Nobody searches for a gym here, they search for the class, and the studio two miles further on wins if it runs the discipline they already do. Tag the discipline rather than the equipment, and send the button to that studio's timetable, because the timetable is what closes the sale.

Franchised clubs

The franchisee prices their own membership, runs their own joining flow, and refits on their own schedule. Their club needs its own facility tags, its own button link and its own hours, edited by the person who actually knows them. Team roles make that possible without letting one operator loose on the whole network.

Setting it up

  1. 1. Audit staffed hours against access hours, club by club

This is the single most common error in gym finders. Write both down for every site, put the staffed times into opening hours, and put access times into a custom field the card shows. A twenty-four hour club that reads as closed at nine in the evening is losing its best joiners.

  2. 2. Build the facility list from what actually varies

Not the brochure. If every club has changing rooms, changing rooms are not a filter. The tags worth having are the ones that differ across the estate and change someone's decision: pool, sauna, platforms, creche, women's only area, parking.

  3. 3. Tag the membership tier each club sits in

Multi-site access is usually the upsell, so a prospect on the basic tier needs to see which clubs their card opens and which it does not. A tag per tier turns that from a call to the sales team into a filter on the page.

  4. 4. Give each club its own timetable and joining link

One button per club, pointing at that site's timetable or its own joining flow. Group-level enquiry pages lose people who were ready to book a class, and franchised clubs will have their own flow whether or not you link to it.

  5. 5. Watch the unmet demand rate as a site-selection input

The analytics page reports searches that returned nothing. In a network that grows by opening rather than acquiring, a town that keeps being searched with no result is the cheapest market research you will get.

What to prepare before you publish

You do not need a perfect data system to start. A clean first list is enough to test the visitor journey, then you can keep it current from the workflow that suits your team.

  • Location name and address
  • Phone, website or booking link
  • Categories, products or services
  • Opening hours and special hours
  • A map provider key
  • The page where the locator will be embedded

Questions we get asked

How do we show 24 hour member access without the club reading as closed at midnight?

Keep two clocks. Staffed reception hours go into opening hours so the open-now filter matches when a tour can actually happen, and access hours go into a custom field on the card. This is the single most common error in gym finders.

Can someone filter clubs by facility, such as a pool, a sauna or lifting platforms?

Yes. Facilities are filterable tags per club, so pool, sauna, platforms, creche and a women's only area each become a checkbox with a count. Only tag what varies across the estate, or the list stops helping anyone choose.

Can each club link to its own class timetable and joining page?

Yes. Every club gets its own button label and link, pointing at that site's timetable or its own joining flow. Franchised clubs will run their own flow whether or not you link to it, so it is better to link to it.

How do we show which clubs a membership tier actually gives access to?

Tag each club with the tier it sits in. Multi-site access is usually the upsell, so a prospect on the basic tier can filter to the clubs their card really opens rather than ringing the sales team to find out.

What does a club finder cost for a gym chain?

From $19 per month, with a 7-day free trial that needs no card, and no free plan when the trial ends. Your Mapbox or Google Maps key stays yours, so map usage is billed by the provider rather than marked up on your invoice.

Can prospects leave their details on the club finder so the sales team can follow up?

Yes, through the optional enquiry form, which is off until you turn it on. After a search a prospect can leave a name, email, phone and message, and it is routed by the address they searched: to the club whose territory covers it if you have set territories, otherwise to a club you nominate or the nearest one. That club is emailed and can mark it handled from the email, and every enquiry is listed in your dashboard. It is a message rather than a joining flow, and there is no notify me list and no push into a CRM, so where the goal is a signup the per-club button into that site's own joining or free-pass flow is still the better route.

If you need something that is not here

Handled is small enough to build to order. If your trade needs a field, a filter or a behaviour the locator does not have yet, say so and we will tell you honestly whether it is a week away or not something we will do.
