A different marker for each kind of location
Retail stores in one colour and service centres in another. Premium dealers gold, certified green, authorized blue. A coffee cup inside the pin for cafés and a wrench for workshops. The map reads at a glance because the markers carry the same meaning as the tags.
Markers get their colour and icon from tags, so this is a tagging job with a settings step at the end.
1. Tag by the trait that should show
Open Categories and create one tag per marker kind: store type, dealer tier, primary service. Assign each location its tag, one by one, during a CSV import, or through a sync. One location, one marker, so the tag that decides the marker should be the one trait each location has exactly one of. Put those tags in their own group, Store type say, so they also become a clean filter.
2. Give each tag a colour and an icon
- 1
Colour
On the tag, choose a colour. With Marker colour set to Tag colour (the default, under Map behaviour), the pin takes it. - 2
Icon
Choose one of the built-in icons (store, coffee, wrench, stethoscope, dumbbell, warehouse and twenty more) or upload your own as a small SVG or PNG. The icon renders inside the pin on the map and beside the tag on cards and in the filter. - 3
Check a location with several tags
The pin uses the first tag in your category order, so put the marker-deciding group first under Categories.
From Claude or ChatGPT this is one sentence: "Make the Service center tag orange with the wrench icon". The connector sets group, colour and icon together.
A one-off colour for one location
A flagship that should stand out without its own tag can have a marker colour set directly on the location, under its map settings. That colour overrides the tag colour for that pin only.
3. Choose the marker shape
Under Map behaviour, Marker style offers a classic pin, a compact dot, your logo inside a pin, or a custom image. Tag colours apply to the pin and dot; the logo and custom image are one artwork for the whole locator, so a per-brand logo on each pin is better done with tag icons. Sizing and the anchor point for custom art are in customize maps and markers.
Clusters
When pins are clustered at low zoom, the cluster takes the colour of its first location, and splits into individually coloured pins as the visitor zooms in. Cluster shape and thresholds are under configure clusters.
